Some History....

Last weekend Jason and I had the pleasure of visiting Nauvoo again and going to Carthage as well (which I had never been to yet). I know I have said it before, but what a powerful Spirit is felt in both places. I feel so lucky to live so close by and see all of these awesome places......also, some of my ancestors lived in Nauvoo and were friends with Joseph Smith so it is cool to be in the exact places they were in. I love driving around here because they are on roads I have never been on before and while we were going there it is cool because you can like be on a flat road in the middle of a field and then all of the sudden go down a hill and you are in a forest-it is awesome. While in Carthage we toured the jail and then we are able to go and sit in the room where everything happened. The original door is still there and the bullet holes are still in it......it is crazy. In the room they play a little audio about what went on that day and you sit there and listen and imagine....we were sitting right next to the window where Joseph Smith fell from and it was pretty special to feel that great feeling and know exactly what had happened there. Here are some pics.

After that we headed up to Nauvoo again, the Temple was closed for cleaning so we wandered around and went into more of the historic sites. The drive from Carthage is awesome, you drive along the Mississippi most of the way and you can see the Temple top over the trees on the river. We went into the Browning Home, Brigham Young's Home, the Brickyard, and the Blacksmith Shop. It was a beautiful day and I was able to get some great shots! All of the tulips and spring bulbs had bloomed so there were lots of pictures to be taken!

This is looking out from the Temple

After we got back from our little road trip we went to a Bandits baseball game (the minor league team that plays here) with our friends the Walls and Barnes. It was a little chilly. We were supposed to go the night before but because there was a tornado warning going on they cancelled it. Not only are there tornadoes here but the river, like I predicted, is flooding downtown. Here is a picture of the baseball field underwater.

I am glad we live inland.

Ok, so I looked at your pictures first, before I read the captions. I saw the baseball field picture and I thought in my head, "Sweet stadium!! It's on it's own island!" I didn't really look close enough to see half of the parking lot under water! Good thing I read the captions!!

Do you have the booklet on our ancestors that lived in Nauvoo and crossed the plains? If not, let me know and I will send you a copy.
