To my handsome little man,
How has it been a year already. Seems like I just found out I was pregnant with you......and seems like I just found out you were a boy. I have to be honest, I was a little nervous to raise a boy....but you wiped away that nervousness when I held you in my arms the very first time at 2:12 on February the 7th last year. If I could have a million more little boys just like you I think my heart would explode. You have no idea how much joy you have brought to our little family and to your Mama. I have watched you grow through these past 12 months (too fast) and have been grateful every day for you. Knowing I was going to have kids 18 months apart freaked me out a bit, but I know now why you hurried up to get here....to be my little snuggle bug, your Dad's son, and your big sister's best friend.
When I wake up in the morning I am so excited to get you out of your crib, you always smile so big at me and my heart jumps when I see those squinty eyes, toothless smile, and chubby cheeks. I love that you give me big hugs and that you wrap your arms around my neck. I love how you open your mouth so big to give me kisses and pull my head towards you to do that. I LOVE that you grab my hair and put it up to your nose when you are sleepy, and how you do the same with your hair. Your hair, oh your hair.....it grows so fast. You went from a mohawk to a comb over pretty fast......and it has definitely made you unique. I can't get enough of your scrumptious chubby cheeks and seriously kiss kiss kiss them all day long. I love that you are all boy and that you are so curious with everything. You love to touch anything you can get your hands on to see what it is. I love how you jump in your crib and you sway back and forth and dance when you are standing next to a gate. I love love how you are my little bear cub and you crawl with your fists down instead of the palms of your hands. You do everything so slowly and cautiously and you are so laid back, just like your Daddy. I love that I was able to nurse you until you were 11 months and I know that is why you still love to snuggle with me. I love that when you are sad or hurt that you look at me with those little blue eyes and wait for me to come get you and if I don't, you come right on over. I can't take it when you are in a ticklish mood....you are so unbelievably ticklish on your palms and your neck that I giggle just thinking about it. You have the most adorable little jibberish and your first word was Mama...and I am pretty sure that is still the only word you can say, and I don't mind. I love watching you and your sister play, it makes me love being a Mom even more and seriously gives me so much joy.
Your Dad could not wipe the smile off his face when we found out you were a boy, and when you were born he had the same reaction. I know he has dreamed his entire life of having a son who he could teach things to and work on old cars with. You guys will be the best of friends and you are so lucky to have a Dad who will always be there for you and who will always be a great example and teacher to you. He loves to tickle you until you can't stop laughing and he loves to show you off every chance he can get. You definitely get your good looks from your Dad.....your look just like a mini him.
Your big sister is your best friend and your protector and I am sure she always will be. She can't get enough of you either. I will never forget the moment she saw you for the first time and gave you kisses. She hardly ever calls you by your name, she calls you "Brother" and makes sure everyone knows that you are her brother. Anytime anyone looks at you or says something to you she tells them that you are hers. It is adorable. She has always been so kind and careful with you, and I have never been that worried about her attacking you....I am waiting until you attack her actually! She loves to kiss you on the cheeks and help with you anytime she can. She bosses you around and makes sure you don't touch things you are not supposed. I love when I wake up in the morning and hear you two laughing at each other. She always tells you that you are funny...."You are funny brother!" One of the most precious things I have ever seen her do is once while we were driving in the car somewhere, you were upset and I asked her to sing to you so she started singing Twinkle, Twinkle. When we had stopped I got out of the car and went to her door to get her out and saw that she was holding your hand while you were sleeping and she was singing to you.....I opened the door and she said, "Shhhh.....brother's sleeping." I know you two will be best friends throughout your life and I am so very grateful for that.
Sterling, I can't imagine life without you and it is hard to remember what it was like before you. I am SO blessed to be your Mother and that our Heavenly Father chose to send you to our family. I know you will be such a blessing to everyone you come in contact with in life, I know everyone that you are around now feel that way!
HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY!!!
